    1. Inventory before commands

Map device groups, access method, config privilege, naming pattern, and the change window that makes the backup useful.

    2. Capture without manual copy errors

Use session logging, command blocks, timestamps, and folder rules so every file can be traced back to a device and operator.

    3. Review differences before storage

Clean banners and volatile lines, compare expected changes, and flag risky drift before the configuration is accepted.

    4. Practice a restore conversation

Turn backups into a recovery runbook: where the last known-good file lives, who approves use, and what is checked after restore.

    Interactive restore rehearsal

Switch the incident type and the practice order changes with it

The workshop is not a lecture about a terminal tool. Each team works from a scenario and leaves with a small backup routine they can adapt to their own network.

    1. LocateFind the last accepted config and its capture notes.
    2. CompareSeparate intended edits from drift and volatile lines.
    3. ApproveConfirm who can authorize the rollback or rebuild.
    4. ApplyPaste or stage the right block with a rollback point.
    5. VerifyCheck interfaces, routes, access, and post-change logging.
